Ceramic experience:
-design and development of (hard and soft) porcelain bodies, vitreous (including
white vitreous)bodies,destined for different shaping methods, with specific
properties as final ceramic materials;
-design and development of glazes to suit various ceramic bodies;
-design and development of cordierite and mullite / cordierite materials (dense
or porous), as well as self-glazed cordierite ceramics;
-design and development of alumina based and high-alumina refractory ceramics;
-design and development of silicon-carbide ceramic materials (clay-bonded
bodies);
-design and development of decorative glazes (for porcelain, vitreous,
earthenware, etc.): coloured glazes, crystalline (including matt, micro and
macro crystalline) glazes, other decorative glazes (crackle glazes, snakeskin
glazes);
-experimental studies aiming to obtain: different colours in a vitreous
matrix (chromophores - glass matrix - firing conditions - obtained
colours relationships); different coloured bodies; some colouring
mixtures for underglaze decoration (relation among the three parts
involved - ceramic support, colouring mixture and glaze);
-chemical - physical - ceramic characterization of ceramic raw materials,
providing also indications about their use, effects and behaviour during firing,
etc.;
-chemical - physical, microstructural and mechanical characterization of
semi-finished and final ceramic products;
-tests and analyses for the chemical-physical qualification of powders; particle
size control;
-rheological characterization of ceramic suspensions; surfactant / additive
selection to control dispersion behaviour;
-toxic metal release testing for tableware items;
-tests of the technological parameters; optimization of the ceramic production
processes and development of the new technologies;
-researches concerning the treatment and recycling of ceramic residues;
-development of methods / applications for the chemical analysis of different
materials, by atomic absorption spectrometry (conventional line source atomic
absorption spectrometry - LS AAS and high-resolution continuum source atomic
absorption spectrometry - HR-CS AAS);
-development of methods / applications for sample preparation of solids, with
the purpose of their chemical analysis through the employment of spectrometric
technologies, using microwave-assisted pressure digestion systems;
-characterization and study of the ancient ceramics by archaeometric methods;
-teaching Inorganic Chemistry, Physical - Chemistry, Physical - Chemistry of
Silicates and Oxide Compounds, Ceramic Science and Technology.
